Lavender Orientation, started in 2017 by student leaders and sponsored by the registered student organization Pride Alliance, arose from the need for new and transfer students to find LGBTQ+ life, students, and resources at Mason. Lavender Orientation has, over time, passed to the LGBTQ+ Resources Center so we can highlight and include LGBTQ+ student leaders across campus as they search for new members and connections. In addition to this role as student affairs practitioners creating spaces for our Mason community to connect, Spring Lavender Orientation also kicks off our lifecycle programming for transfer LGBTQ+ students (that culminates in Lavender Graduation). While the focus has historically been on new or transfer students, it has also served to re-acquaint returning LGBTQ+ students with each other, our Center, and the resources Mason offers.

For accommodations that require support from Disability Services, please contact them directly at ods@gmu.edu. If you have accommodation-related questions about the general run of program, please email the Center directly at lgbtq@gmu.edu.

Please be aware that a 1-week notice is requested as some accommodations may require time for the University to arrange. Learn more about Event Accommodations here https://ds.gmu.edu/event-accessibility/

QT BIPOC InitiativeQT BIPOC logo

First piloted in Fall 2023, our QT BIPOC Initiative works to build community in GMU’s campus community for Queer and/or Trans Black, Indigenous, and People of Color folks.

In partnership with three undergraduate center interns who are hired, trained, and compensated by the LGBTQ+ Resources Center, our focus in the 2024-2025 academic year is laying the groundwork of community via regular meet-ups and visibility so GMU students, faculty, and staff who are QT BIPOC can have space and find each other.

We are lucky to also work with Juton Myers in African and African American Studies Program, who serves as an advisor to the group, and is deeply invested in this work.

Reach out to our QT BIPOC Center Interns at qtpoc@gmu.edu to get involved

George Mason Trans Clothing Closet Resource logoTrans Clothing Closet Resource

Created in 2019, the Trans Clothing Closet is a resource where transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming students can find free clothing and accessories. No one has to prove they are “trans enough” to use the closet.

The Trans Clothing Closet Resource is IN our LGBTQ+ Resources Center, in Student Union Building (SUB) I, Suite 2200.

We are generally overstocked, so stop by and get a new fit!

You can read more on our website or reach out to us via email with questions.

Queer Buddy System

We're excited to continue to offer our Queer Buddy System Discord server, a resource available to students seeking community virtually! If you haven't already, be sure to open the verification channel and fill out the form required to gain access to all channels of the Queer Buddy System server.

The LGBTQ+ Resources Center cultivates the success and well-being of queer, trans, non-binary, and questioning students, staff, and faculty. Our work is deeply collaborative and rooted in intersectional justice. We build identity-affirming programs, develop leaders, provide critical resources, and foster a culture of equity and allyship, at Mason.
