Trans Health Workshop

The LGBTQ+ Resources Center and Student Health Services will discuss topics such as binding and tucking safety in addition to injection instruction and practice. There will also be a Q&A session, so this is a great opportunity for students to learn about health resources available at George Mason University and the Northern Virginia area.

LGBTQ+ Student Showcase

This Fall, the LGBTQ+ Resources Center, Women & Gender Studies Center, and Graduate Student Life are sponsoring Mason’s first LGBTQ+ Interdisciplinary Showcase!

This one-day in-person event will spotlight Mason’s graduate and undergraduate students’ outstanding scholarly, research, and creative works through posters, oral presentations, and creative, visual, and performing arts that highlight the work of our LGBTQ+ students.

Call for Proposals

We invite all Mason graduate, professional, and undergraduate students to submit current and/or in-progress work they are interested in sharing with our community from any discipline or area of study. Proposals can be individual or group papers, documentaries, films, visual presentations or performances, and more!

Makeup Monthly: All Eyes On!

Come learn about and experiment with makeup at our second Makeup Monthly of the semester! This session will be all about eye makeup: eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lashes, & eyebrows. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own products to experiment with!

VA Pridefest (Rescheduled)

Richmond’s biggest celebration of the LGBTQ community returns on Sunday, October 22 at Bon Secours Training Center! This event is free and will feature national, regional and local entertainment on two stages, more than 120 vendors, food, drinks and fun! Be sure to experience our Youth Pride Pavilion with entertainment, activities and experiences for all-ages. For the second year, The McShinn Foundation will sponsor a special sober space for those who don’t drink, featuring special mocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.

Registration Information:
Please note that there are only 50 slots available, so this event is prioritized for students in the LGBTQ+ rLC. Priority dates for the LGBTQ+ rLC registration will be 9/29 - 10/11. Non-rLC students who register will be placed on a waitlist in the order that they registered. If there are available slots, non-rLC participants will receive an email informing them if they received a slot on 10/18.

Waiver Information:
Everyone who registers must also fill out and sign the attached waiver. The waiver must be submitted to the LGBTQ+ Resources Center in SUB I, Suite 2200 or via email to lgbtq@gmu.edu. Bus transportation will only be provided to registered participants who have submitted their signed waiver. If you do not provide a waiver, we cannot let you on the bus.

Safe Zone+ Workshops

Safe Zone+ Program (Fall 2023)

The primary mission of Mason’s Safe Zone+ Program, like our LGBTQ+ Resources Center, is to create a safer, more welcoming & inclusive campus environment, to strengthen community and encourage networking among faculty, staff, and students toward the goal of supporting the well-being of LGBTQ people.

Intro to LGBTQ+ Communities (recommended to take FIRST)
– Distinguish between gender and sexuality
– Give examples of non-gendered language
– Identify examples of allyship
Awareness Module (recommended to take SECOND)
– Describe LGBTQ+ identities
– Give examples of LGBTQ+ cultural history
– Apply intersectionality to their own experiences
Gender Module (recommended to take THIRD)
– Distinguish between components of gender
– Explain the relationship between Cissexism, Racism, and Transphobia
– Identify barriers to inclusion for trans and nonbinary people
Ally Skills Building Module (recommended to take FOURTH)
– Articulate characteristics of good allies
– Examine scenarios with opportunities for LGBTQ+ equity
– Distinguish between systemic and interpersonal injustice
