The primary goal of the Linguistics Society is to promote and foster the study of human language as a science. In doing so, the Society rejects traditional prescriptive attitudes regarding language use in an effort to explore how people actually use language in their lives; this is the essence of descriptive linguistic study.
A meeting of the Linguistics Society is a place for linguists and those interested in language to gather and discuss the intricacies of modern and historical language structure and to encourage understanding and appreciation for language diversity.
