Who are we?

Mission

The primary goal of the GMU Linguistics Society is to promote and foster the study of human language as a science. In doing so, the Society rejects traditional prescriptive attitudes regarding language use in an effort to explore how people actually use language in their lives. This is the essence of descriptive linguistic study.

What do we do?

The GMU Linguistics Society provides a number of opportunities for students either interested in linguistics or enrolled in linguistics courses to learn about the field, share research ideas, and foster a community of growth and support in these endeavors.
