SSAC Programming Request Form
Thank you for your interest in a Student Support and Advocacy Center (SSAC) Program! We accept requests for programming by an SSAC Staff Member on a given topic below to a group of individuals. The SSAC team includes full-time staff
and
part-time student staff; therefore, some of the programs may be provided by either type of staff member.
Please fill out the form below at least 2 weeks in advance of the event and provide a first choice and an alternative date/time to help us schedule and prepare. We cannot guarantee our availability for the date(s) requested, and we will contact you if we have a scheduling conflict.
If you would like a program on a specific topic that is not addressed here, please email ssac@gmu.edu, and we will work with you to create something to fit your needs.

Each program is 50 minutes unless otherwise stated. We are unable to shorten the time frame or merge two or more programs. If you would like the program to be longer than 50 minutes, please share this information when our staff reaches out to confirm.

Student Support and Advocacy Center General Overview
: Learn about all content areas of SSAC and resources available to GMU students. (30-45 minutes)
Referring Students in Distress (Faculty/Staff only)
: Learn how to identify and support students in distress, as well as how to refer them to SSAC and other resources. (30-45 minutes)
Healthy Relationship Celebration
: This program focuses on healthy relationships & aims to help students explore boundaries, communication, and consent in all types of relationships.
Respondent Services Information Session
: Provides an overview of services provided for student respondents participating in the University's Title IX process. (30-45 minutes)
OurMason Prosocial Bystander Intervention
: Participants learn strategies and techniques to increase prosocial bystander behaviors.
What's the Buzz
: Join the Student Support and Advocacy Center staff for an educational program on alcohol use. This program incorporates activities, games, and facilitated discussion to explore information on serving size, blood alcohol level, and safe consumption practices. (50 minutes - 1 hour, 15 minutes)
Let's Be Blunt
: Join the Student Support and Advocacy Center staff for an educational program on cannabis use. This program incorporates activities, games, and facilitated discussion to explore information on cannabis use, legalization, social justice impacts, and more. This program may be given by a Substance Use Peer Mentor. (45 minutes)
Creating a Budget and Managing Credit
: Attendees learn how to create and stick to a budget. A variety of tools and resources are offered and discussed. In addition, attendees will learn what goes into a credit score and how to manage credit. (30-45 minutes)
Student Loan Repayment
: This program focuses primarily on federal direct student loan repayments, and also briefly discusses private loans and Perkins loans. In addition, information is provided on all loan forgiveness options as well as Public Service Loan Forgiveness and how to set up an income-driven repayment plan. (45-60 minutes)
Financial Aid 101
: This is a program available to High Schools only. Our Financial Well-Being Peer Mentors team will present to high school seniors and their families on understanding their financial aid options and resources. This program goes into a deeper discussion about how to apply for all financial aid options, including federal and state aid, private loans, scholarships, and grants. Information is also given about VASA and about the difference in FAFSA years and what being selected for verification means. This program is available in both English and Spanish, so please request your language preference in response to the final question at the end of the survey. (45-60 minutes).
FAFSA/VASA Completion Program
: This is a program available to High Schools only. Our Financial Well-Being Peer Mentors team will assist high school seniors and their families with completing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or VASA (Virginia Alternative State Aid). Both are applications needed to apply for financial aid. This program is available in both English and Spanish, so please request your language preference in response to the final question at the end of the survey. (2 hours)
