Mason's BMSI focuses on academic progression, social and life skills, and career readiness. BMSI has the expressed interest in increasing retention and graduation rates; fostering a supportive environment for students to live, learn, and grow; and most importantly, addressing the needs and challenges facing black males in our society today.

Students who participate in the Mason Black Male Success Initiative will:

Expand their engagement and understanding of Black culture through exploring masculinity and social justice issues (Leadership & Social Justice)

Develop skills assisting them in preparing for their career aspirations though workshops and programs (Career Readiness & Preparation)

Achieve academic success through an understanding of campus resources (Academic Success)

Develop, maintain, and strengthen interpersonal and professional relationship with peers, faculty, staff, and mentors in the broader community (Community Building)
