Mission
The mission of the AbuSulayman Center for Global Islamic Studies is to advance a sound and nuanced understanding of Muslim societies and the Islamic faith, its role in world history, and its current patterns of globalization. The center recognizes that Islam is a universal faith and a world civilization with a global community. Thus, the center provides a global, rather than regional, framework for exploring Islam.

The AbuSulayman Center for Global Islamic Studies supports research, interdisciplinary academic programs, and community outreach. By providing educational and research opportunities for students, faculty, and visiting scholars, it is helping develop 21st century leaders with a sophisticated understanding of the complex dynamics that shape Muslim communities worldwide.

The Communication Center supports students and faculty at George Mason University through one-on-one coaching focused on developing communication skills. We provide a safe place for students to receive feedback, ask questions, and have conversations about their own public. interpersonal, and group communication.

Our center is a judgment-free space in which our consultants' primary objective is to help students achieve their personal speaking goals. Some students make appointments to receive support on completing oral communication requirements for course assignments (both Communication courses and those outside the discipline), while others have personal or professional oral communication goals they wish to focus on.

Pop Culture I.D.E.A.’s recognizes the influence of the “cultural industry” producing cultural goods. Pop Culture I.D.E.A.’s centers our scholarship around the influence and impact of popular culture in matters of Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Access (I.D.E.A.). The mainstream influence of pop culture has consequences for marginalized communities in society. To this extent Pop Culture I.D.E.A.’s aims to examine and explore: 1) how marginalized communities respond to/produce popular culture content, 2) the influence of popular culture content on development of identity for marginalized groups, 3) mainstream depictions/perceptions of marginalized communities present in popular culture, and 4) the political economic impacts of popular culture on marginalized communities.
