Starting this semester, our goal is to actively engage with the community and student body to share any initiatives we have planned throughout the academic year. For your reference, here are some initiatives we took prior to the start of the Spring 2023 semester:
- Charter Changes: While we’ve made several modifications to our new Version 6 Charter this year, which I have attached for your reference, the biggest change is in our naming scheme from Student Council to Student Government and any accompanying structural changes to better reflect that of the Fairfax campus. We’ve also made changes or improvements to our impeachment and motion of no confidence processes in any case that a member is unable to fulfill their responsibilities and have refined roles and guidelines for each cabinet position.
- Redesigned Letterman Jacket: Together from self-appointed members from our student body, our Letterman Jacket Redesign Committee has created and finalized a new letterman jacket design that makes better use of Mason’s green-and-gold color scheme. If you have yet to purchase the letterman jacket and would like to, please do so through our Linktree by March 3rd, 2023.
- Renewed sosok partnership: Mason Korea Student Government recently renewed our partnership with sosok, a campus membership app for students, faculty, and staff members in our community. All faculty, staff and students can receive discounts and benefits by using the sosok app in almost 700 stores – cafes, restaurants, make-up shops, driver’s license academies, and much more – in not only Songdo but all aroundKorea. As one of our main external partners, we have also worked with the Office of PR & Communications to increase our reach and enhance student life.
- Collaborative IGC Student Union-led Discord: In collaboration with Student Governments and Councils from other IGC universities, Mason Korea Student Government spearheaded the implementation of an unofficial, unified Incheon Global Campus (IGC) community using Discord. If you are interested in joining, the invite link can be found in our Linktree!
- Assessing Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs): We’re working hard to bring better student engagement and classroom management mid-semester through analysis of Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs). Thanks to support from the Office of Academic Affairs and Faculty Affairs, we presented this idea in front of faculty and staff members during our Professional Development Week on Wednesday, February 15.
We have much more initiatives and ideas in mind for the rest of the year, such as the following:
- Fairfax and Mason Korea Student Government Collaborative Meeting: We are planning to have a meeting with Fairfax Student Government to establish a position within their Student Government for a Mason Korean student to ensure adequate representation for all Mason Korea Students in Fairfax.
- Student ID Card Redesign and ISIC Implementation: We plan to work with the Office of University Life and IGC Foundation to recruit a student-led Student ID Card redesign committee and to advocate for an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) option that students may opt in for by the Fall 2023 semester.
Of course, we will continue to actively host and engage in events happening on campus, such as our most recent Welcome Weekend and upcoming Spring 2023 Convocation, Student Engagement Fair, Town Hall, IGC Sports Day, and Mason Day.
If you do run into any of us on campus, feel free to say hello or voice any questions, suggestions, or concerns you may have.
On behalf of Mason Korea Student Government, we wish you the very best of luck on the rest of the semester!
