Subject: SFB Top 5 Tips: Building Your SFB Toolkit
We hope the start of your semester is going well! The Student Funding Board (SFB) is so excited to work with your organization this year. This is SFB’s first edition of Top 5 Tips, a quarterly newsletter where we share tips for your Registered Student Organization (RSO) to succeed in the SFB funding process. This edition is focused on building your SFB toolkit!
1. Complete the Canvas Module and Quiz to apply for funding
All RSO Presidents and Treasurers must complete the SFB Canvas Module and Quiz to 100% each year to be eligible for SFB funding requests. The module features key information for officers about the funding process, from requesting funds to requesting payment.
If you haven’t completed the quiz this year yet, check your email for an invite link or log into Canvas to find the module in your courses. Reach out to sfb@gmu.edu if you have any questions or if your officers have changed and need Canvas access.
2. Find your Org Code to apply for funding
All RSOs are assigned an Org Code unique to their group after registering. This code works like an account number, allowing budgeting staff to make transactions with the right RSO. You will need the code when you are completing all funding and payment requests.
You can find your Org Code by logging into your RSO on Mason360, clicking the Files tab, and reading the name of the top file folder. The code should start with either a W or an M. View the RSO Org Code slides for more information.
3. Explore the RSO Hub to learn all about SFB
The RSO Hub is the one-stop shop for Mason student organization resources, links, and FAQs. We highly recommend checking out the RSO Hub before submitting all funding requests. In addition to SFB, the RSO Hub also provides information on registering your org, event planning, and other RSO processes.
4. Calculate Submission Dates to submit your request on time
SFB event requests with vendor payment and travel requests are due 30 days before your event date. All other event requests and non-event requests are due 15 days before your event.
To calculate when you should submit your request, use the Time and Date website. Your "start date" is your event date, date you need the supplies by, or travel date. Select "subtract.” In the "days" section, put either 15 or 30, depending on your event type.
5. Utilize the RSO Event Supply Checkout for FREE supplies
Did you know that RSOs can check out event supplies from the Student Involvement (SI) office for FREE? SI has purchased event materials including cups, tablecloths, backdrops, and more for your RSO to take advantage of in place of SFB requests.
Navigate to WebCheckout to start a supply reservation. Select Student Involvement as the Checkout Center. Reservations are due at least 5 business days before your event.
Thank you for all you to do enhance the student experience on campus! If you have any questions about SFB, reach out to us at sfb@gmu.edu. Want to explore potential SFB applications, discuss your current funding requests, or just learn more about SFB policies and procedures? You can always set up a meeting with SFB via our Calendly link.
