Subject: Fraternity and Sorority Life's The Weekly 4/1

Hi First_Name,

Welcome to this edition of The Weekly! For the rest of the semester, we will be sending out future issues every other week.

At Mason FSL, we hope that you, your chapter, and loved ones are staying safe and healthy. We know in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic that there is a lot to get used to such as working with online classes, leaving campus, and learning to get used to new schedules and routines. We understand that Fraternity and Sorority may not be the first priority for most, but it is important that you keep the momentum going to maintain these bonds, build new ones with prospective members, and ensure that the business of your organization continues.

Because of these new situations, we wanted to focus this issue on "Keeping The Momentum," and provide some resources and support for the road ahead of all of us.

This hour long Title IX Complaint course harnesses the power of storytelling to engage and inform students on their role in stopping sexual violence.

As an incentive, if 75% of your chapter completes this course by the end of the month, we will give SOE credit for the Sexual Misconduct and Relationship Violence Education Requirement. For more information, please contact Phil McDaniel at pmcdanie@gmu.edu.

Student Government Elections

Student Government Elections are underway! Make sure your voice is heard. Voting closes this friday, so please make sure you cast your ballot via Mason360! If you have any questions about elections, make sure to reach out to Phil at pmcdanie@gmu.edu.

Going Virtual

By now, you all may have heard the word "Virtual" one too many times when it comes to engaging with one another. What does this actually mean? What could this look like? Mason FSL has gathered some tips and tricks to help you engage with your members and host virtual events during this unprecedented time.

Engaging with Members

During this time of social distancing, it is important more than ever to be able to engage with your membership. Here are some suggestions for virtual member engagement:

1. Instagram Story Templates - Instagram (IG) has grown to become one of the largest social media platforms in the world, and now it can be used as a tool to help connect one another. IG Story templates are a great way to get to know your members more: you can add questions about how they relax, what their favorite songs are, hobbies, etc. For an example of an awesome IG Story template, check out the Panhellenic Council's IG account (@masonpanhellenic)!

2. Netflix Party Movie Nights - Netflix Party is an extension through the Google Chrome Internet Browser that allows you to join some of your friends in virtual movie nights with a chat feature. (Click here to learn more about Netflix Party) A great idea is to host a virtual movie night with your members using Netflix Party. Just remember that everyone needs a Netflix account in order for this to work!

Do you or your chapter have an awesome idea or concept to keep your members or prospective members engaged? We'd love to hear about it and have you featured in the next issue of The Weekly! Send your ideas and a picture (if applicable) to Hammed Sirleaf at hsirleaf@gmu.edu!

Mason360 Virtual Event Checklist

  • Include the “Virtual” event tag to help students filter out the types of events they are interested in.

3. Add Link to Virtual Events Description

  • Make sure to add any virtual links (Webex/Zoom/Hangout/etc.) in your event description. All links added to the description are hyperlinked.

4. Add Link to Virtual Event Room Location

  • Since you aren't meeting at a physical space, you can add the virtual event link (Webex/Zoom/Hangout/etc.) here. After registration, attendees will receive a confirmation email displaying a clickable link to easily access your event.

5. Encourage Students to Continue to Register

  • This is helpful to maintain accurate attendance tracking for your office.

6. Send Out Email Reminders to Attendees about Upcoming Events

  • Share the event link and remind them to have to Mason360 App downloaded on their phones before participating in the event. Having the app installed allows students to self-check-in using the displayed Event QR Code.
