What is AIAA?

AIAA is the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the leading professional organization for anyone passionate about aviation, space, and the future of aerospace technology. It brings together students, engineers, researchers, and industry leaders in one community built around innovation and exploration. Through technical conferences, design competitions, student chapters, mentorship programs, and industry networking, AIAA gives students a direct path into the aerospace world.

Being part of AIAA means gaining access to hands‑on engineering experiences, real aerospace projects, and opportunities to collaborate with people who share your drive. It helps you build technical skills, strengthen your résumé, and connect with professionals who can open doors to internships, research positions, and careers across aviation, defense, and space exploration. For many students, AIAA becomes the place where they discover their engineering identity, grow their confidence, and find a team that pushes them to do their best work.

Our Mission

The mission of this organization is to promote the goals and programs of AIAA within George Mason University while inspiring student interest, involvement, and leadership in aerospace.
