Mason grad students: Join us either in person or on Zoom on Fridays (9:30 - 1:00), beginning on Friday, Feb. 3 for a morning of writing in a community of like-minded people! Each Friday during the term, graduate students bring a set of goals and a commitment to arrive on time and remain for the entire session. We begin with a short conversation about goals and end with a short wrap-up on accomplishments. The remaining time is dedicated to writing. A Writing Center consultant coordinates the session and takes consultations with writers who request them.
If you're looking for group accountability and regular time to write with other Mason graduate students who are also serious about making progress on their writing goals, sign up for any number of sessions between one and fifteen. You may schedule just one or two sessions to get started on a course project, or attend all fifteen to give yourself regular, structured time to work on a thesis, dissertation, or other writing project.
If you register for a write-in, you are committing to:
-Join on time and to stay for the duration
-Turn off access to Facebook, online games, and other computer/online-based distractions during writing time
-Minimize distractions by phone by limiting texting and phone calls to scheduled break times
-Contribute to a supportive writing community among fellow participants
Please register ahead of time and indicate whether you'll be attending in person or on Zoom. If you elect to join via Zoom, the coordinator will email you the Zoom invitation before the session. If register then realize you can't make it, please let the coordinator (jgoranss@gmu.edu) know in advance.
To sign up for a write-in, just register here for the dates you'd like. Please email Jenny Goransson at jgoranss@gmu.edu with questions. The write-ins are open to Mason students only.

This panel brings together Masters/PhD candidates, representing Mason’s different colleges and fields of study. Panelists will share strategies that have helped them navigate the post-coursework hurdles such as exams, theses, capstone projects, or dissertations. Come hear both general and discipline-specific advice from those who are or have been where you are now. After the facilitated portion of the panel, time will be allowed for a follow-up Q&A.

This panel brings together faculty from Mason’s graduate faculty, representing the different colleges and fields of study. Panelists will be asked questions along the lines of what they wished candidates (both MA/MS and PhD) knew about post-coursework (going into their exams/thesis/diss/final projects). They will be giving discipline/field-specific advice about generating/producing your research question for the project you’ll be doing. After the facilitated portion of the panel, time will be allowed for a follow-up Q&A.
