Join us for a talk with Ustadh Rubeellion Mansoor (a student at GMU) on one of the most significant moments in Islamic history: the peaceful entry of Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second caliph, into Jerusalem and his reception of Masjid al-Aqsa. Ustadh Mansoor will walk through the historical context of the conquest, Umar's conduct toward the city's inhabitants, and the enduring significance of al-Aqsa as the third holiest site in Islam and its deep connection to Palestine. The talk will explore what this history means for understanding Jerusalem's religious and cultural significance today. Following the talk, we'll be serving Palestinian food from Bawadi to honor the connection between this history and the land it took place on, giving attendees a chance to experience Palestinian cuisine while reflecting on the discussion. This event is free and open to all Mason students, no prior background in Islamic history required.
