Dear Patriots,
Greetings from Mason Korea Student Government! We hope you’ve all had a splendid start to the Fall 2023 semester. To our newest Patriots, Student Government publishes monthly digests to educate the University community on its internal and external affairs. You may find our previous digests and announcements through our website at mk.sg.gmu.edu, including contact information for all members.
- ID Card Redesign: As part of our initiatives to redesign the Student and Faculty / Staff ID Cards this semester, our Redesign Committee, composed of students, faculty, and staff, worked hard over the break to create a total of 10 proposed designs. We thank you to those who voted and gave valuable feedback through our Mason360 form, and of course, our Committee members. Unfortunately, we have made the decision to postpone the redesign due to an internal brand refresh taking place in the Fairfax Campus, which we anticipate will be completed in the next academic year. On behalf of Student Government, I apologize for the delay and disappointment this decision may have caused – we will, however, use these designs as a reference in the future for when the Mason Brand Refresh is complete.
- CDS and ECON Rep Appointments: We have completed the appointment process for one of two vacant positions within the Student Senate: Economics Major Representative. We have yet to complete appointing the Computational and Data Sciences Major Representative, with our tentative plan to reopen applications this week.
- Room Reservation and Facility Updates: Starting this semester, Mason Korea Student Government can reserve any rooms on behalf of any student organizations not registered as an RSO or individual, (non-)recurring events required by students. You may find the link to the form on the Facilities page of our website, including IGC facility timetables.
- Office Change and Office Hours: Student Government has moved to its new Office in G404 on the fourth floor of the Mason Korea building. All members of our community are welcome to join us for our weekly in-person meetings on Mondays 8pm, and may meet with a Student Government member in-person during Office Hours, found in the Contact Us page of our website.
- Renewed Sulpan MOU: We are thrilled to announce the extension of our partnership with Sulpan (ýêáÝîÉ), a restaurant located in Songdo Triple Street Building D until December 31, 2023. You may receive 10% off orders over KRW 50,000 when presenting your Student or Faculty / Staff ID Card.
- University Life Events: As always, our Student Government members were on-campus to welcome our newest Patriots to the Mason Nation during the New Student Orientation, Welcome Weekend, and Student Engagement Fair. We thank you all for your interest in Student Government – please do look forward to any events we have planned for our community throughout the semester!
- Faculty-Student Engagement Program (FSEP): We presented the idea of increasing engagement between faculty and students outside the classroom environment, such as meals or coffee on- or off-campus, during Mason Korea’s Faculty Professional Development Day on August 17th. We thank the Office of Academic Affairs and Faculty Affairs for the invitation and opportunity to present in front of faculty and staff members for such a program, which we hope to implement next academic year.
- Town Hall with Dean Matz: Student Government, in coordination with the Office of University Life, held the Fall 2023 Town Hall on August 30th. We thank members of our community for their submissions and Mason Korea leadership for taking the time to take these questions, concerns, and suggestions seriously.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us anytime.
