Free Speech vs. Tabling
RSOs are not able to set-up tables on the various Student Centers plazas. One of the main comments is that tabling counts as free speech which is incorrect. As soon as an object is set on the ground whether it be a table or brochure stand, that group is now taking up space and requires a reservation.
Whatever can be contained to the person’s body (with the exception of sound amplification devices) is allowed and counts as free speech. This is not only in reservable spaces but campus-wide.
Chalking is not allowed in reservable spaces (includes both kiosk and event space: everything from Wilkins Plaza to The Hub Outdoor Kiosk to the Corner Pocket Patio. Chalking also is only allowed on horizontal pathways that are exposed to weather elements.
