Team History

2018-2019

In the spring of 2019, the team got off the ground and had their very first practices in a half size rink. The team did not have a coach at the time and only 8 members.

After having a few practices, the team played its first ever scrimmage against The George Washington University resulting in a loss of 0-9.

2019-2020

The team found itself 3 coaches and 5 new members to join on. Mason also officially joined the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference (DVCHC) Division III.

Before even receiving uniforms and having any practices Mason re-matched GW resulting in the club's first victory 6-5.

While competing in the DVCHC the club went undefeated and was the top seed for the 2020 playoffs. Mason won the first round of playoffs by a point scored in overtime and was on their way to the championship game.

The championship game was tied 1-1 and went into four overtimes before the opposing team scored and Mason suffered its first loss of the season.

4 members of the team were invited to play in the DVCHC's All-Star game. Mason also received many awards from the DVCHC including Student Athlete of the Year, Founders Award, Coach of the Year, and Goalie of the Year.

2020-2021

Due to COVID-19 the DVCHC had to cancel their 2020-2021 season. The team was also unable to play any out of conference games due to the pandemic.

GMU Women's Ice Hockey was awarded most improved club by Club Sports for their 2019-2020 season and their ability to keep practicing during the pandemic.
