In advance of their performance at Mason's Center for the Arts on Nov. 5, Sri Lanka's Chitrasena Dance Company is pleased to offer a movement workshop to the Mason community.

This introductory class is an opportunity to learn about Kandyan Dance, an indigenous traditional dance form from Sri Lanka whose origins date back to over 2500 years as a temple ritual. The class will begin with a brief introduction to the history of the Kandyan dance, and how the Chitrasena dance style developed over the past seven decades and is being practiced today.

Dress code: Full-length tracks or yoga pants and a comfortable t-shirt. No Shorts or Skirts

Both Chitrasena Dance Company and the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble will be on campus for a week prior to their performance as part of the Mason Artist-in-Residence program, engaging in activities with our on- and off-campus community.

This event is FREE and open to all levels. Registration is required through Mason360 and is capped at 50 participants. Masks are requested, but not required, as a courtesy and in consideration of the artist's health and safety while on tour.

For the event, please enter through the lobby of the Center for the Arts and someone will escort you to the workshop onstage.
