Dr. Muhammad Salar Khan is a Public Policy professor at Rochester Institute of Technology. His research focuses on AI ethics, policy, equity, adoption.

Here is a description of his talk:
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping economies, societies, and democratic institutions. While AI offers major benefits, it also raises risks such as inequality, job disruption, misinformation, and weakened accountability. In the United States, AI governance has largely evolved through executive actions, industry self-regulation, and fragmented state policies. This innovation-first approach struggles to manage AI’s broader systemic risks. Comparing U.S. governance with approaches in the EU, UK, and China highlights key trade-offs. This talk argues for a hybrid AI governance model that balances flexibility with accountability by combining regulation, markets, institutions, and public investment.
