Participation in Club Sports is open to all current George Mason University full-time students, part-time students, faculty, and staff with an active Mason Recreation membership. We welcome people of all backgrounds and experience levels, whether you're an experienced fencer or picking up a weapon for the very first time. We are a teaching-focused club, and about 80% of our members begin fencing in college, so you'll be learning alongside many others who are new to the sport. Please keep an eye out on our socials and feel free to email us. If you want first-hand information feel free to drop by at one of our practices, Get-Connected Fair or at IVth Night.
Whether you're an experienced fencer or completely new to the sport, there's a place for you in our club. If you have previous fencing experience, simply come to our first regular practice of the semester—we'd be excited to welcome you and help you get back on the strip. If you're new to fencing, you'll begin by attending On the Fence, our introductory event designed specifically for beginners. During this event, you'll have the opportunity to learn the basics of all three fencing weapons—Épée, Foil, and Sabre—from our experienced members. After trying each weapon, you can choose the one that feels like the best fit before joining our regular practices.
Prior to engaging in any club activities, it is mandatory for all participants to have an up-to-date assumption of risk form on record. We have a two-week try-out period over this period feel free to engage and try out our sport. Now that you have decided to join our club please navigate to IMLeagues and request to join our roster. This link has important information about the required forms a participants needs to finish after the two-week tryout period. Like all club sports, we collect dues to help cover club expenses. Semester dues are $40, or you can pay $70 for the full academic year. New members have their first equipment rental fee waived. After that, members are required to pay a $25 rental fee each semester. If you would like to compete in local tournaments, we provide USA Fencing membership as well. If you any questions feel free to reach out to one of our officers or email us at gmufencing@gmail.com

Welcome to our club, new member! We practice three times a week: Monday and Thursday (7:00–9:00 PM at the RAC) and Saturday (2:00–4:00 PM at the AFC). We host multiple social and community events throughout the semester. You don't have to be an experienced fencer, we truly welcome anyone looking for a community to make the most of their college experience. We are also part of the BWCFC (our regional league) and USACFC (our annual national tournament). We compete in local tournaments at other universities across Virginia and Maryland. And yes, we do get competitive at times, because where's the fun if you don't bring home some silverware? But you've chosen an amazing sport. Our club doesn't just build athletes it develops leaders, lifelong friendships, and responsible individuals, and we're excited to have you with us!
