This workshop introduces graduate students to conference applications. It will show students to how to convey the impact of their research in an abstract, how to avoid jargon, how to review a Call for Proposals, and how to plan their conference presentations. This workshop is open to graduate students of all disciplines and is highly recommended for participants in the Three Minute Thesis Competition and Research Poster Competition.

This workshop will provide tips for presentation and slide design for succeeding at the Three Minute Thesis Competition. The workshop is open to all graduate students and is tailored to those who registered for 3MT or who are interested in participating in 3MT in the future.

In this workshop, graduate students will learn how to approach identifying fellowship and grant opportunities available to George Mason graduate students and the general expectations of popular fellowships. We will discuss strategies for developing a personalized plan to locate relevant fellowships and grants, as well as writing strategies for the common fellowship components such as personal statements and research plans. In addition, supplementary drop-in office hours will be offered one week later to provide deeper fellowship application support.

Participants will learn how to use discipline-appropriate academic language to improve clarity, cohesion, and academic style in their writing. The strategies presented will be applicable across a range of graduate writing tasks, including course papers, literature reviews, theses, dissertations, and manuscripts prepared for publication.

This workshop will benefit all graduate students looking to prepare for job fairs, conference presentations, and more! This workshop is open to all graduate students and highly recommended for students preparing for annual conferences at Mason, particularly the Mason Graduate Interdisciplinary Conference.
