Learning Assistants (LAs) are undergraduates in the College of Science who are interested in unique educational opportunities such as participation in undergraduate instruction, course innovation, peer-to-peer tutoring and mentoring (etc.) and the chance to work closely with Mason faculty. The LA program has three main goals:

1) Facilitate the learning of undergraduates in classrooms, labs, help rooms, and other venues though the use of Learning Assistants who understand the material and attend the course lectures.
2) Deepen the LAs understanding of important concepts of the course in which they are working by having them assist the learning of other undergraduates. 3) Expose LAs to the process of teaching and learning through weekly workshops and hands-on teaching experience.

The interdisciplinary nature of designing, modeling, and fabricating a formula-style vehicle from scratch, managing sponsorships and donations, and leading small, mission-focused teams is a unique chance to best mimic an industry-level project which demands cohesive teamwork from members with various backgrounds.

The mission of SoSa is to encourage students to understand that technology does not merely exist within a bubble for one's profit, but in a space of common good for everyone. We create political and civic engagement change and increased social good, while focusing on networking with other nonprofits and technology activists to help students get better nontraditional opportunities. SoSa focuses on but is not limited to semesterly campaigns for women's issues, environmental, and social justice causes.

We hope students will get more civic engagement and political networking opportunities to work with partners like TechShift Alliance, Women Giving Back, and more nonprofits and technology related organizations, whilst also working on political change through letter writing and lobbying.

VAW Medical Outreach provides volunteers with an opportunity to shadow medical professionals and work side by side with experienced doctors. Volunteers will accumulate medicines prior to the trip to the host country. While in country, volunteers will shadow and assist the doctors, perform triage, measure vital statistics, manage the pharmacy and teach public health classes, all under the direct supervision of experienced, local doctors

VAW-Dental outreach provides volunteers with the opportunity to shadow dental professionals and assist them in procedures such as extractions, cleanings, fillings, radiography, and sealants. Volunteers will fundraise for the supplies and materials used for the procedures prior to the trip abroad. In the clinics, volunteers will perform basic triage, assist the dentists, and manage the pharmacy, as well as teach oral hygiene classes in elementary schools. All volunteer work is under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
