Mason Korea Buddy Program

What is the Buddy Program?

“Mason Korea Buddy Program” is a program that strengthens the connection between the Korea and Fairfax Campus. It mainly targets Freshmen in Mason Korea and International Students who come from Virginia through Global Gateway or Study Abroad programs. This program will help Mason Korea students get more actively engaged with International students. Our main focus is that you as a student can feel that even though we are two nations, we are still one Mason and one community. We want to show Korean Students a way to join Fairfax communities and International Students to come and stay in Mason Korea with a better atmosphere.

  • How does it work?

For now, 10 freshman students can enrol in the program, 5 Mason Korea students and 5 Mason Fairfax students. There are no prerequisites. For mason Korea students it is a major advantage to be Korean but it is not necessary.  In groups of two you and your partner are going to discover the beauty of South Korea and you will exchange cultural experiences. The goal of this program is that you get to to know Mason students from other backgrounds and gain an understanding of a global perspective.

  • The Credit system

In the program you as a team will not only discover Mason Korea as a community and South Korea as a country. While doing so you will also compete against the other groups. The team that at the end of the program has the most credits will win. An example for the credit score can look like this:

    Credit Example

    <First Lunch or Dinner>: 3 Credits

    <Visit a cafe in Songdo>: 1 Credit

    <Visit Seoul>: 3 Credits

    <Experiencing Korean Traditional Culture>: 3 Credits

    <Out-going activity *e.g., visit Lotte World / hiking >: 3 Credits

<5 Meals Together *except the first meal>: 2 Credits

<Hangout with other pair>: 2 Credit <Upload photos of each meeting on Instagram and tag Student Government accounts>: 1 Credit
